Dr Anna Morcom's new book on Times of India list

Posted on 12/03/2014

Senior Lecturer Anna Morcom's new book, Courtesans, Bar Girls and Dancing Boys: The Illicit Worlds of Indian Dance, is featured by The Times of India on a list celebrating women's power through extraordinary tales. The 320-page tome, published by Hurst, is a historical and fieldwork-based study of hidden dance worlds languishing in the shadow of mainstream performing arts scenes. Highlighting issues of marginalisation and stigmatisation in courtesan, bar girl and transgender communities, Dr Morcom gives voice to their lives of struggle and their challenging of inequality.
