Former MMus student shortlisted for composition prize

Recent Royal Holloway postgraduate Simon Wilkins has been shortlisted for a major compositon prize at the University of St Andrews in Scotland.  The competition, which is open to all UK composers under the age of 30, is part of the university's 600th anniversary celebrations and called for submissions of works for full orchestra between nine and twelve minutes in length.  Simon's composition The Sun Rising will be performed by the university's Music Society orchestra at a celebration concert on 21st April 2011 along with the two other shortlisted works, at the end of which the overall winner will be chosen and a prize of £1000 awarded. The judging panel includes prominant Scottish composer Sally Beamish and staff of the music faculty at St Andrews.
