MUSIC DEPARTMENT CERTIFICATE COURSE IN CONDUCTING

2012-13

Levon Parikian proposes to run an orchestral conducting course this year if take-up is sufficient (minimum 8, maximum 12). The course will be open to conductors of all levels of experience, although priority will be given to those who took the course last year in the first instance. The dates are as follows:

Thursdays Nov 1, 8, 15, 22, 29, Dec 6, Jan 17, 24, Feb 14, 21, 28, Mar 7 (12 sessions).

All sessions run from 6.30 – approx 9.30 pm in Wettons Annex. Each student will have an opportunity to conduct every week, and will be expected to participate fully in the class.

The first 4 sessions will be conducted with piano (4-hands), thereafter it is hoped that an orchestra (however small) will be formed from student volunteers (including members of the class who play orchestral instruments). The participation of the conducting students in organising this orchestra will be integral to the successful running of the course.

Students are expected to obtain their own scores and be familiar with the entire chosen repertoire, which will be:

Beethoven - Coriolan Overture

Sibelius - Valse Triste

Mozart - Symphony No 36 “Linz”

Ravel - Mother Goose Suite

The cost of the course is £260.

Please apply to Sue Geddes in the Music Department with a cheque of £260 made payable to Levon Parikian. These will be held un-banked until places are confirmed.

APPLICATIONS WITH CHEQUES WILL BE TAKEN IN ORDER OF RECEIPT AND MUST BE RECEIVED BY 8 OCTOBER 2012
