John Walsh - Studio Manager
Prior to joining the Media Arts Department in 1994, I gained extensive experience in television, both in studios and outside broadcasts with the BBC, Virgin TV, Vector TV as well as freelancing for Telegenic and Sky.
I designed and built the Media Arts’ TV Studio originally, and played a big part in its excellent digital upgrading in 2004. I continue to enhance the facilities including a new DMX lighting system, giving us more flexibility with our lighting and reducing our Carbon Footprint.
I teach all aspects of TV Studio practice including lighting, sound, camera work, vision mixing and studio protocol. I also teach location camera practice, sound acquisition and good microphone technique.
I have recorded and mastered several CD albums including rock, folk and classical, as well as mixing sound for live events such as concerts and conferences as well as the local Englefield Green Village Fair.
I have produced videos for clients including 'Making the Difference' for Ealing Council and 'Psychiatry in the Millennium' for the Bournewood Community Health Trust. More and more I am involved with producing and authoring work on DVD, including a short piece for the University's Catholic chaplain Fr. Vladimir Nikiforov about his ecumenical collaborations, and the showreel for a professional actress Sarah Finch as well as others.
Outside work, I have raised funds for charity by organising several enjoyable concerts, by cycling in the London to Brighton bike ride and worst of all, running in the Windsor Half Marathon. I also help my wife raise funds with her charity tombolas at the University's Garden Party and the local Village Fair.
