MA3062 Research Project (compulsory)

Weeks 1-5 of the Autumn Term would consist of a series of lectures introducing students to more advanced research methodologies and consolidating theoretical skills already learnt on other courses within the degree. To include: selection of research topic, advanced library and database skills, assistance with compiling bibliographies and filmographies, writing proposals and assimilating research. The students will produce a 500-word proposal by the end of Week 6, Autumn Term for their research project and will have already ensured its viability (examples of primary research projects would be: an extended interview with a key media figure; tracking a media company or professionals; an analysis of a specific cinematographic technology). Students will then be assigned a supervisor with relevant expertise who will agree a title for the Critical Study/Essay, to incorporate the primary research material. The Critical Study and an Evaluation of the project will be submitted at the beginning of the Summer Term.


500 word proposal (5% of final mark), a Critical Study of 5,000-6,000 words (85%) and an Evaluation of 1,000 words (10%).
