MA2070 TV Identity

Tutor: Lina Khatib

Teaching: 10 hours lectures and 10 hours seminars

Value: ½ unit

Availability: Autumn

This course helps students understand the relationship between television and identity, whether personal, social/cultural or national. The course introduces students to various theories on identity (including the study of race and ethnicity), and applies those theories to specific examples from television. This is done through the analysis of television programs produced in a variety of countries and which cover a number of genres (documentaries, soap operas, current affairs, entertainment).

Students must attend at least 70% of the course, with the stipulation that not doing a seminar presentation or the required course work counts as a missed seminar. Final assessment is by means of one 4,000-5,000 word essay to be written after the course has finished.
