Multinational retailers and consumers in China

'Multinational retailers and consumers in China:

Transferring Organizational Practices from the United Kingdom and Japan'

Professor of International Business Jos Gamble's latest book is due to be published on 15 July by Palgrave Macmillan. A Chinese-speaker, Jos has visited China and Japan for research on numerous occasions.

Since the early 1990s China's retail sector has gradually opened to foreign involvement. Based upon extensive first hand comparative research, this book investigates the transfer of parent country organizational practices by UK and Japanese retailers to their Chinese subsidiaries. Providing insights into employment relations in multinational retail firms as well as changing labour-management systems in China, this book describes some of their impacts on consumer culture in a developing country.
