Assessment Grid for Undergraduates

For Year in Business Students: Placement Handbook

If you are thinking about postgraduate study in the School of Management, there is funding available from the Economic and Social Research Council (ESRC).

The ESRC offer a limited number of studentships that fund students to study for an MSc followed immediately by a PhD, or for a PhD .

The deadline to apply is early February each year for students who intend to begin an MSc in September and are available to Home or EU students. For more information and documentation see the ESRC page.

Please note: There are more applicants than awars available making these studentships highly competitive. If you are interested in applying, contact Management’s PhD Director,  Professor Paul Robson .

Mentoring Support

In today’s competitive employment market, our graduates are receiving extensive support from our alumni. Our students who have had a mentor in the first few years as they progress after graduation have been inspired to become motivated, confident and successful professionals.

We have alumni across a whole range of industry groups, some of which have extensive experience of coaching, mentoring, managing and teaching. Through a combination of meetings, emails and telephone conversations, you can be supported, receive advice and guidance on career options and next steps.

If you are interested in being mentored, please email us.

How to submit your coursework

All deadlines are 12 noon on the day of your submission

You should also check Moodle and individual course outlines for course-specific instructions. More detailed information on how to submit can be found in the Undergraduate Handbook.

Marking policy in the School of Management

All coursework is first marked using the Student Assessment Form. It is Department policy to moderate all forms of assessment in the following manner:

  • All Fails must be moderated as well as all borderlines (e.g. 59%) and 10% of the remaining assessments.
  • When assignments are marked by a team the Course Coordinator will set out standards of marking and indicative answers and ensure there is standardisation between markers.

Submission of work

The School of Management is moving towards online marking and you may not be required to submit a hard copy for some courses. Please check each course outline as to what is required.

If you are required to submit ONE hard copy:

All hard copies should be submitted to the School Reception.  These should be simply bound by stapling your work at the top left hand corner.

Your essays should be in this order:

  • Student Assessment Form (collect form from Reception)
  • Student Information Page (click to download)
  • Body of work
  • Bibliography.
ONE electronic copy submitted via Moodle.

A copy of the PowerPoint Slides in PDF format can be found here.

NB: The Student Assessment Form must have your Paper ID Receipt number on it or it will not be accepted as submitted.
