Other libraries

As a Royal Holloway student or staff member, you are entitled to access other university libraries in the UK.

We always recommend checking the relevant online catalogue before you visit and contacting the library beforehand if you are wanting to access a specific item.

All students and staff are entitled to membership of Senate House Library, but you may be able to use other higher education libraries using the SCONUL Access scheme. The British Library has its own separate admissions procedure, so you can apply directly.

Royal Holloway also has reciprocal agreements with several other institutions, allowing our students to access a wider range of collections. These are listed below. Click for more information:

CABI

CABI at Alderhurst, Bakeham Lane, Egham TW20 9TY, has a small library specialising in mycology, plant pathology and agriculture.  Members of Royal Holloway are welcome to use it for reference, but by appointment only, as it is staffed only for part of the week.  Contact CABI on 01784 470111, and ask for the Library..

M25 Consortium

The M25 Consortium contains 57 libraries situated within or near the M25 motorway, mostly university libraries, but also some museums and specialist libraries.  RHUL members may have access to all the university libraries through the SCONUL Access scheme.  Access to the other libraries is normally by appointment, see their own websites for details.

The Consortium maintains a unified search service at Search25.ac.uk which enables you to trace books and journals held in any of the member libraries, and also check your eligibility for access.

University of Surrey

Under a reciprocal agreement, all members of RHUL may apply for borrower cards in the Library of our neighbour, the University of Surrey, on Stag Hill, Guildford, GU2 7XH.  Be sure to take your College card with you when you visit the library.  Staff and postgraduates are asked to take a SCONUL Access introduction and register under that scheme, to avoid distorting the statistics for it.  You can check their opening hours on the Library's website
