Reference management software
This software enables you to store and manage your references electronically and automatically generate bibliographies in a variety of referencing styles. The College offers two different solutions:
EndNote - If you are a current member of College staff, taught or research postgraduate regularly using a single College-owned computer and will want to manage a large number of references.
RefWorks - If you are a current undergraduate. Or if you are a current member of College staff, taught or research postgraduate using your own personal computer who wishes to collect, access and use your references from anywhere on the internet, or share references easily with colleagues online.
It is easy to swap references between the two applications to gain full advantage of both.
For more general guidance on referencing please see the Purdue Online Writing Lab (OWL).
How can I access my references after I've finished my course or College employment?
When you finish your course, access to all electronic library resources, including RefWorks, will end due to licence agreements with suppliers. If you wish to keep your references choose from one of the options below. Make sure you do this before the end of your course.
- You can create an alumni RefWorks account for free. To do this you will need a college-specific reference number, for this and instructions contact the library.
- Export your references from Refworks as either a BibTex or RIS file and import them into a free reference management service on the Internet which may have more limited functionality. Zotero (for Firefox only) is the best for most purposes.
- EndNote users, you can export your references in RIS or txt format along with a copy of your EndNote Library file to use at your next employment.
- Purchase a personal copy of EndNote while still a student, at the heavily discounted student rate. For details and to purchase visit the Adept Science homepage.
