Mapping a printer

Question:
Mapping a printer
Answer:

To map a printer to your computer:

  1. Go to Devices and Printers
  2. Click Add a printer
  3. Choose to add a network printer
  4. Opt for The printer that I want isn't listed
  5. Select the shared printer by name option, or the option that allows you to type in the dialogue box

If adding a networked printer (one connected to the network via a socket in the wall):

  • Enter two backslashes, followed by the name of the server that the printer is on, then a third backslash (e.g. \\wps100\ )
  • On the third backslash, a dropdown list of all printers on that server will appear. Select the one you want.

If adding a shared printer (one connected to the network via a colleague's machine):

  • Enter two backslashes, followed by the machine name that the printer is attached to, then a third backslash (e.g. \\ADPC123\)
  • On the third backslash, a dropdown list of all printers attached to that machine will appear. Select the one you want.

    6. If it asks for authentication (e.g. Do you trust this printer?), click Install Now.
