Editing a landing page - how do I edit a landing page?
Answer:

Your landing page should convey topical and timely messages for your target audience. Use meaningful short headings that match the words used by your audience so your visitors can quickly scan your content. 

The landing pages have been redesigned to simplify the navigation and layout making it more user friendly, and to give your target market an improved first impression of Royal Holloway. The image/video slideshow and feature boxes allow you to communicate and update topical short, sharp key messages.

Instructions

 

  1. Click on your landing page in the Navigator.
  2. Select Edit from the menu.

 

Slideshows

 

  1. If you have an image slideshow and want to switch to a video slideshow email the IT Service Desk.
  2. If you have a video slideshow and want to switch to an image slideshow email the IT Service Desk.
  3. You cannot combine the image and video slideshows.

 

Video slideshow

 

  1. You can have a maximum of five videos in your slideshow.
  2. Click into the title area e.g. 'Title here...' and type your title in. This area is limited to 20 characters including spaces so keep it concise and succinct. 
  3. Click into the synopsis area e.g. 'Paragraph here...' and type in your descriptor text. This area is limited to 150 characters including spaces to make your message sharper.
  4. If you need help editing your text please email your Communications Manager or the IT Service Desk.

  5. Each video requires a holding image (362 x 204px) that will appear on the live site (help on cropping and resizing images).
  6. To add a video it needs to be on e.g. YouTube or our streaming media server (to add to the latter email the IT Service Desk).
  7. Right click in the video box e.g. [video].
  8. Scroll to 'Web Controls', 'Multimedia', 'Video Player'.

  9. In 'Choose a Preview Image' browse and upload your holding image (362 x 204px).
  10. In the 'Streaming' section, add the external Youtube URL e.g. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yGzD7aA88DQ (do not use the embed code) to 'External Video URL'.
  11. If your video is on the media streaming server, add it's location URL to 'Streamer'.
  12. If you want to add more than one video you must add a number to 'ID' in the 'Standard options' area. For example VideoPlayer1 for the first video, VideoPlayer2 for the second, and so on.

  13. Scroll to the 'Player Layout' section. Add video height 222px and width 362px.
  14. In the 'Player Behaviour' area, tick 'Icons', 'Stretching' should be 'ExactFit' and the volume set to '90'.

  15. Click 'Save selection'.
  16. Repeat the above steps to add further videos. 
  17. Save and preview your landing page.

Image slide

  1. You can have a maximum of five images in your slideshow. 
  2. Click into the title area e.g. 'Title here...' and type your title in. This area is limited to 20 characters including spaces so keep it concise and succinct. 
  3. Click into the synopsis area e.g. 'Copy here...' and type in your descriptor text. This area is limited to 150 characters including spaces to make your message sharper. 
  4. If you need help editing your text please email your Communications Manager or the IT Service Desk.

  5. Each image needs to be 262 x 270px (help on cropping and resizing images). 
  6. To add an image, drag the image icon in to the [image] place holder.
  7. To hyperlink a slide, highlight the image only and use the 'insert hyperlink' option in the editor toolbar.
  8. Save and preview your landing page.

Feature boxes

 

  1. Click into the title area e.g. [title] and type your title in. This area is limited to 20 characters including spaces so keep it concise and succinct. 
  2. Click into the synopsis area e.g. 'Copy here...' and type in your descriptor text. This area is limited to 100 characters including spaces to make your message sharper. 
  3. If you need help editing your text please email your Communications Manager or the IT Service Desk.

  4. Each image needs to be 130 x 122px (help on cropping and resizing images). 
  5. A selection of faded images are available in Contensis in central image library - public - online image library - shaded graphics landing page grid
  6. To add an image, drag the image icon in to the [image] place holder.
  7. To hyperlink a feature box, highlight the image only and use the 'insert hyperlink' option in the editor toolbar.
  8. Save and preview your landing page.
