Copy - How do I create a copy/shadow copy of a web page?

Question:
Copy - How do I create a copy/shadow copy of a web page?
Answer:

With the page open in Contensis, Save (Create a Copy) will create a new page in the Project Explorer that is a copy of the page.It will have a filename to that effect.

Your original page will still exist but this is a quick way of creating several pages that might start very similarly, but then need alterations to each copy and be used as another web page on your site.

If you do not want these copied pages to be editable you can create them as shadow copy pages instead.

Editing the original will then update all the shadow copies.

To create a copy of a web page:

With the page open in the Editor

  • click on the Save button drop down arrow

createACopyButton

  •  click on Create a Copy

CreateACopyPopUp

  • type in a new page name.

Contensis will save this copy in the same folder as the original or you can choose an alternative.

  • click on the Browse icon to open the CMS Content Browser screen

contentBrowserScreen

  • locate the folder where the copy should be stored
  • tick the box
  • click on the Save button.

A copy works in the same way as a new web page i.e. you need to submit and approve the copy for it to appear on the website.

To create a shadow copy of a web page:

  •  tick the create a shadow copy box

shadowCopy

  • click on the Save button.

If you do try and edit a shadow copy you will see the following warning screen.

cannotEditPopUp

Please note: although you cannot edit a shadow copy you still need to submit and approve them by selecting this option from the Workflow drop down to make them live on the website.

Create Copy can also be selected from the Project Explorer menu:
