Students are normally expected to have at least a Second Class honours degree in a relevant discipline, or an equivalent qualification acceptable to the University of London. A relevant discipline includes, but is not restricted to, computer science, electronics, information systems and mathematics.
Applications from mature students, who do not possess a degree but have appropriate industrial or commercial experience, are also welcomed. For students for whom English is not the first language, a high level of competence in the English language will be required, typically a minimum
IELTS of 6.5, with no subscore lower than 5.5 or
a TOEFL ibT88 overall with the following minimum subscores - Reading 18, Listening 17, Speaking 20, Writing 17 or
a Pearson Test of English 61 overall, with no subscore lower than 51.
All 'non-standard' applications are viewed sympathetically, each case being considered individually on its merits. Applicants with relevant work experience and industry certifications are particularly encouraged to apply.
Some of the modules require some technical understanding of computer networks and systems, and also some elementary mathematics. However, no sophisticated mathematics or scientific skill is required and tutorials will be offered during the first few weeks of the term to cover the necessary material for those students without degree level experience in these aspects.
The Admissions pages contain further details regarding entry requirements. Students from overseas should visit the International pages for information on the entry requirements from their country and further information on English language requirements.
