Continuing Professional Development

Continuing professional development (CPD) mode of study is a relaxed mode of study where students take modules that interest them on a schedule that suits them. There can be a number of motivations for taking courses in CPD mode: a desire to improve baseline skills in a particular security arena, formal accreditation of existing skills, or as an introduction to information security before committing to the full MSc programme.

Completed modules can be used for Continuing Professional Education (CPE) purposes and professional bodies such as ISC² accept our modules for CPE purposes. CPD students will be given a Certificate of Attendance but may also choose to enter for the examination to earn credit towards the MSc. Information Security programme. A student who elects to enter for the assessment of the modules and successfully follows the study programme of the MSc within a period of five years will qualify for the MSc Information Security.

CPD modules may be taken as traditional weekly lectures, as one-week block mode modules, or through the distance learning programme. If mixing campus weekly lectures or block mode with Distance Learning, please note that Distance Learning is administered separately so separate applications to both the campus and distance learning programmes would need to be made.

Block mode modules are normally run on campus, but may also be delivered, by arrangement, at an organisation's own site.

Applicants applying online for the Continuing Professional Development mode should choose 'Part Time' as the mode of study and contact Michelle Gates to advise that you wish to study in CPD mode. She will ensure your record is changed to Continuing Professional Development mode once, if successful, you enrol as a student here at Royal Holloway.

For further information about any aspects of CPD mode and the latest module fees, please contact Michelle Gates.
