In the eighth article - "Active defence through deceptive IPS" - of our Computer Weekly 2017 Royal Holloway Information Security thesis series, Apostolis Machas proposes an active approach to gathering threat intelligence, using honeypots to deceive an attacker.

Dr Liz Quaglia, lecturer in the Information Security Group, together with her co-authors Maxime Meyer and Ben Smyth, is now appearing on GSMA's Hall of Fame for their work on GSMA's M2M Remote Provisioning specification and the responsible disclosure of several attacks that have the ability to impact the mobile industry and its customers.

The Smart Card Centre Open Day 2017 took place on 30th August 2017 in the Picture Gallery, Founder's Building, Royal Holloway University of London.The free exhibition (50:50 mix of industry and student exhibits was a relaxed networking and exhibition event for its sponsors, supporters and industry lecturers plus honoured guests and students. The Open Day included practical demonstrations of products and technology.

Royal Holloway PhD student wins best paper award at conference in Japan
Description
Nasser Al Fannah, a current PhD student in the Information Security Group at Royal Holloway University of London, has won the best paper prize at IWSEC 2017, the 12th International Workshop on Security, to be held in Hiroshima, Japan at the end of August. The paper 'Not All Browsers Are Created Equal: Comparing Web Browser Fingerprintability', was co-authored by Wanpeng Li, a recent former ISG PhD student.

The event aims to attract and bring together the many talented researchers in cryptography in the area, and to help create fruitful collaborations.The event will be held at Friends House, 173 Euston Road, London, NW1 2BJ, on Friday 22nd September 2017 and is sponsored by EPSRC.
