The Computer Centre has a recommended range of laptops that it supports for staff use.
The college has two Microsoft licensing agreements. The first is called Microsoft Campus. This is an annual site licence, which allows the college to install a limited range of Microsoft products at no extra cost to departments. Products included in this are Microsoft Office, (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, Outlook and Publisher), Windows desktop operating systems (Windows XP Professional and Windows 7) and various Client Access Licences (CALs) needed for Exchange e-mail and other Microsoft server products.
The second Microsoft agreement is Microsoft Select. This is a volume licensing scheme available to the UK academic community. The majority of other Microsoft products not covered under Microsoft Campus can be purchased at highly reduced rates under this scheme.
Other commonly requested software from companies such has Adobe are not available free of charge or under any site licence agreement. However, highly discounted academic rates do exist for these and many other applications. We can recommend specific software for various tasks and point you towards some good sources to purchase the products.
Other standard software such as Web browsers, web plugins (e.g. RealPlayer, QuickTime, Acrobat Reader) virus scanners etc. can be installed for free.
Off Campus use/personal purchases
