This summer the College will be upgrading the virtual learning environment to Moodle 2, updating our digital repository and introducing new technology called Panopto for recording lectures.

Part of the Learning Platform Refresh Project to enhance the learning experience for students, the upgrade will expand the toolkit available to teachers to use in their teaching now, and allow more new features to be introduced in future. It will also improve service reliability by taking advantage of developments in IT infrastructure, whilst ensuring that key academic services don’t run on software that will no longer be available or supported after 2012.

The project team in IT and Academic Services are currently working on moving to Moodle 2 and will build the new platform and copy course content across during May and June as part of annual rollover. Tutors will be able to edit their 2012/13 courses from the beginning of July.

Skills development, training and ongoing support will be offered by the Educational Development Team.

Monthly information bulletins will be posted on the project web site at the following link: Project Website

The first of these is a project summary, available to download as a PDF here: Key Messages Bulletin April 2012
