Our popular week-long Science Festival starts from Monday 24 February, with a packed programme of interactive science-themed events for local schools. The week culminates in our flagship event ‘Super Science Saturday’ on 1 March from 10am to 4pm, open to the wider community and particularly to staff and their friends and family.
The programme of free activities for all ages includes events such as a Harry Potter themed live owl display with experts answering questions, as well as miniature steam engine demonstrations based on The Railway Children. Royal Holloway’s Science Departments will demonstrate their world-changing research, from intelligent robots to superhero skills and the Real Ice Age, joined by guest presenters from the Natural History Museum and the Science Museum.
The Festival, which aims to inspire all ages with the wonders of science, will include a talk by the Department of Psychology on laughter and how we respond to it, a Science Festival Dinner exploring food from around the world for teachers, and a stage dialogue between past and future, taking a unique look at time travel from HG Wells in the 19th century to Dr Who in the 21st century.
