It was with great sadness that we learned that Alan Ledger died on 21 February 2014. Alan had been diagnosed with cancer in August last year and recently had been receiving care in a hospice.
Alan joined the College in 2001 as the Systems and Projects Accountant. He worked extensively on the purchase to pay system and the financial elements of the Banner student record system and the Accommodation system. He implemented the electronic payment solution, through which most student fee payments are now made. Most recently Alan played an important role on the Agresso finance system project, which went live at the same time as he fell ill.
Alan was a popular member of the Finance Department and with his colleagues in IT. He was thoughtful and considerate, but with a keen sense of humour and irony. He faced his illness with the same good humour and care about others, and with a great deal of courage. Alan and his wife Helen had the pleasure of the birth of their first grandchild, Beatrice, in September, as well as the marriages of their son and daughter in the last year.
Our sympathies are with Helen and Alan’s family at this difficult time.
Donations and funeral
Alan’s funeral will be held at Basingstoke Crematorium on Monday 10 March at 11am with light refreshments afterwards.
If you wish to attend, please let Jenny Febry know by the end of Tuesday 4 March, advising if you will also be staying for refreshments.
The family have requested family flowers only and that any donations are made to Greenpeace or the Pancreatic Cancer Research Fund.
We have set up a donation page in Alan’s memory for the PCRF and include the link below together with a link to the Greenpeace website. If you would prefer to send a cheque, please forward to Jenny who will pass it onto the family.
