Santa's Workshop Extended Donation Dates

Posted on 16/12/2013

Santa's Workshop is an initiative hosted by Royal Holloway’s Community Action, run in association with Age UK Runnymede and Spelthorne. Staff, students and the local community donate items such as warm clothing and festive treats for seasonal parcels. These are distributed to the local elderly and vulnerable over Christmas period, which can be a particularly lonely and difficult time for many.

So far Royal Holloway staff and students have generously donated over 250 items for this year’s initiative. On Wednesday 11 December a team of volunteers wrapped presents and created 107 seasonal gift bags at the campus based workshop in the Students’ Union. We are running an additional workshop in the Community Pop-Up Shop from 12pm on Tuesday 17 December and are extending the opportunity to donate items to this worthwhile cause until the morning of that day.

Departments have dedicated collection points for donations towards Santa’s Workshop, but there are other collection points across campus at the Hub Reception, Founder’s Reception, Cafe Jules, Windsor Building Foyer, Computer Centre Foyer, Huntersdale, Orchard Building and SU reception. So far the areas who have collected the most donations towards this year’s appeal are the Computer Centre, English, History, Psychology and Social Work.

The updated list of donated items needed for these includes;

  • Chocolates / Boiled sweets
  • Biscuits
  • Mince Pies
  • Christmas Puddings / Christmas Logs
  • Christmas Crackers
  • Writing paper / envelopes
  • 2014 Calendars
  • Please note, no alcohol can be accepted

Please donate all items by 9am, Tuesday 17 December. Thank you for your generosity!

If you would like to help wrap presents, you can join us at the Community Pop-Up Shop from 12pm to help us create a further 100 bags. For the first time, we are able to assist Age UK in delivering the Christmas bags to local residents on Wednesday 18 December from 10am - 3pm in Egham and Englefield Green.
