New Directors to focus on Recruitment and Student Experience

College Executive has agreed important changes that should make a significant impact on two of our highest current priorities.

Firstly, competition for students is getting tougher and tougher, and we need to ensure that we are organised to make the best use of our talent and skills, so that future students choose us.

With this in mind, we have decided to create a new directorate of Recruitment and Admissions, which will bring together all widening participation, recruitment, conversions and admissions activity  for home and EU, and international students as well as all student-related institutional partnerships. The new directorate will launch on September 1st.  We are starting work now to appoint the Director for this new team, and to move the relevant staff into new posts in the team.

We hope that this change will bring focus and consolidate our best efforts in this critically important area, which should have a direct impact on the number of students we are able to recruit.

Secondly, we know that one area that holds us back in a variety of student surveys is the lack of a rich campus life outside of the academic experience, particularly in the evenings and at weekends.  To address this, we have decided that the current Student Experience Champion role, a part time role, will be made full time and become the Director of Student Experience.  We will expect the Director to tackle this issue of student life head on, and make significant improvements that should translate into improvements in student satisfaction, and beyond.

At this stage, both of these changes are cost neutral, although of course, we may wish to consider further investment into these important areas once they are established, and have their plans drawn. The new posts will report to the Registrar and Secretary.
