Following a review of its pay scale to implement the cost of living increase, Royal Holloway has decided to increase the first point of the pay scale to £7.80. This decision will ensure that the starting pay for our junior members of staff does not fall below the National Living Wage, currently £7.65.
The National Living Wage was launched by a London-based campaign in 2001, backed by research by the Joseph Rowntree Foundation. The National Living Wage is not a legally enforceable minimum level of pay, like the national minimum wage, so employers choose to pay it on a voluntary basis.
By increasing pay levels above the National Living Wage, we are maintaining our commitment as an ethical employer.
