Royal Holloway’s Internships Fair saw the Windsor foyer buzzing with students meeting employers on Wednesday 30 January. Organised by the Careers Service, the event was the first of its kind on campus and showcased a diverse range of fully paid internship opportunities including IT, Management, International Development and HR. Companies included British Airways, Samsung and Allianz. Final year students were able to meet with the STEP London Graduate Internship Programme from The Careers Group, University of London.
Over 400 students networked with employers and explored the wide variety of internship options, complimented by Careers Service workshops giving 'Top Ten Tips' for successful internships. The workshops also heard from English and Media Arts students who had completed placements as part of their courses.
Employers at the event were impressed by the wide range of skills Royal Holloway students had to offer and commented on their willingness to engage. Internships are recognised as fundamental to increasing graduate employability and students welcomed the opportunity to meet such employers on campus.
Head of Careers, Elizabeth Wilkinson, commented:
“With so many organisations offering unpaid or illegal work experience, it is impotant that students can meet reputable employers here on the campus. I am proud that our internship showcase offered something for everyone, mixing the corporate world with small businesses and charities. The pilot event has proved to be a great addition to our dynamic portfolio of careers and employability events.”
