Garden Party raffle proceeds donated to charity

Royal Holloway's famous Picture Gallery provided the setting for the Egham Show Reception last week. The event was hosted by the Principal and attended by some 100 dignitaries including the High Sheriff of Surrey and the Mayor of Runnymede, former Mayors, the President and Officers of the Egham Show, representatives of local companies, sponsors and volunteers.

At the event we made donations to charity arising from the proceeds of the 2013 Garden Party Raffle. Colleagues will be delighted to hear that we were able to make donations to the tune of £7000 to charities this year! This is double the sum of £3500 that was raised and donated last year.

The Principal presented the following cheques:

£2750 to the Cystic Fibrosis in acknowledgement of the tireless fundraising over many years by Hazel, Beryl and Joan, all former staff members of the Finance Department

£3000 to the Breast Cancer Unit at the Ashford and St Peter’s Hospitals. We welcomed the Chairman of the Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust, Ms Aileen McLeish and Tayo Johnson, the Clinical Lead for Breast Cancer who received the cheques. The College has very close links with the Hospital.

£1250 to the Tetanus Project based at the College and led by the Development Department.

Such a magnificent outcome of the Garden Party was only possible because of the huge support of many colleagues, contractors, Honorary Fellows and local companies who supported the event in a variety of ways. A particular thank you goes to Nicholas Smith from Barclays Bank who matched the proceeds of the Raffle to the tune of £2250 and to Yazan Mufti, our Honorary Fellow and Jordanian businessman who has supported the College for over 10 years, and who on this occasion matched the Barclays matching!

But the biggest thank you goes to all colleagues who bought raffle tickets and attended the Garden Party!
