The United Arab Emirates

Royal Holloway has been welcoming students from the United Arab Emirates onto our courses for a number of years and we are well equipped to meet the academic, religious and dietary needs of students from the Gulf region.

We also welcome applications from non-Emirati students whose country of domicile is the United Arab Emirates.

Currently there are 11 students from the United Arab Emirates studying on undergraduate degree programmes. Popular subject areas include: Management, Politics & International Relations, Biomedical Sciences and Psychology.

The Regional Manager responsible for the UAE is Andy Rowe who visits the UAE at least once a year. Please do not hesitate to contact him at Andy.Rowe@royalholloway.ac.uk if you would like any information or assistance with making an application.

Applicants to Royal Holloway come from a diverse range of backgrounds and we accept a broad range of qualifications to our courses. Each applicant is considered carefully on their individual merits, but please see below for the standard minimum entry requirements for students from the United Arab Emirates.

Secondary School Leaving Certificate (Tawjahiya)
Students who have completed their Secondary School Leaving Certificate (Tawjahiya) in the UAE will need to take our one year International Foundation Programme, or the equivalent from another institution, before beginning their undergraduate studies.

Students who have successfully completed one year of a Bachelor's degree at a reputable university in the UAE and who have achieved good grades will be considered for direct entry to the first year of a Royal Holloway Bachelor's degree programme.

A levels & International Baccalaureate (IB)
Students who have taken A levels or the IB Diploma will be considered for direct entry onto our undergraduate programmes.  Specific grade requirements can be found in the course finder entry for your chosen course.

Exact requirements will depend upon the programme, but most departments will ask for a GPA of between 2.8 and 3.0/4.0, or a final grade of between C+ (Good) and B (Very Good).

Masters Degree
Students who have successfully completed a Masters degree in an appropriate subject with good grades/GPA and at a reputable university will be considered for entry to a Royal Holloway MPhil/PhD programme. Exact requirements will depend upon the programme, but most departments will ask for a GPA of 3.0/4.0 or a grade of B (Very Good).

The local Emirati community

Royal Holloway is a multi-faith community, with many different beliefs represented on campus and excellent cooperation between faiths both on campus and in the local community.

The numerous on-campus faith groups include the RHUL Islamic Society (ISoc), who arrange five daily Muslim prayers and classes. ISoc also maintain the College's Prayer Room, which offers prayer and ablution facilities for men and women.

There are several food outlets on campus with Halal provision; simply look for the letter ‘H’ next to meat meals in The Hub, Crosslands, Founder’s Dining Hall, KW’s and The Store on Campus.

Royal Holloway has close links with the Islamic Welfare Association of West Surrey which was formed in 1986, to serve the Muslim community in and around Royal Holloway University of London.
