 Royal Holloway has been attracting students from Kazakhstan for a number of years, and we are delighted to have 36 Kazakhstani students currently studying at undergraduate and postgraduate level.

The most popular courses amongst students at Royal Holloway from Kazakhstan are Management, Economics, Politics and International Relations and Computer Science.

One of our International Officers usually visits Kazakhstan twice a year, in March and October, to attend education exhibitions and meet prospective students and agents. We have close links with the British Council in Astana as well as a number of education agents.

Applicants to Royal Holloway come from a diverse range of backgrounds and we accept a broad range of qualifications to our courses. Each applicant is considered carefully on their individual merits, however please see below for the standard minimum entry requirements for students from Kazakhstan.

Undergraduate 

Diploma of Completed Secondary Education
Students who have completed their Diploma of Completed Secondary Education in Kazakhstan will need to take our one year International Foundation Programme|, or the equivalent from another institution, before beginning their undergraduate studies.

Bachelor's Degree
Students who have successfully completed one year of a Bachelor's degree in Kazakhstan with good grades will be considered for direct entry to the first year of a Royal Holloway Bachelor's degree programme.

A levels & International Baccalaureate (IB)
Students who have taken A levels or the IB Diploma will be considered for direct entry onto our undergraduate programmes.  Specific grade requirements can be found in the course finder entry| for your chosen course. 

Postgraduate

Bachelor’s Degree (Baklavar)
Students who have successfully completed a Bachelor's degree (Baklavar) in an appropriate subject with very good grades/GPA will be considered for direct entry to a Royal Holloway Master's degree programme. Exact requirements will depend upon the programme, but departments will usually ask for a minimum of either 3.5/5.0 (70%) and 4.0/5.0 (80%) from one of the top Kazahkstani universities.

Specialist Diploma
Students who have successfully completed a Specialist Diploma in an appropriate subject with very good grades/GPA will be considered for direct entry to a Royal Holloway Master's degree programme. Exact requirements will depend upon the programme, but departments will usually ask for a minimum of either 3.5/5.0 (70%) and 4.0/5.0 (80%) from one of the top Kazahkstani universities.

Master's Degree (Magister)
Students who have successfully completed a Master's degree (Magister) in an appropriate subject with good grades/GPA and at a reputable university will be considered for entry to a Royal Holloway Master's degree programme. Students may also be considered for entry to a MPhil/PhD programme. Exact requirements will depend upon the programme, but most departments will ask for a minimum of 4/5 or 80%.

English Language

IELTS/TOEFL score
Students will need to be able to prove that they have a minimum level of English language proficiency.|

Students who do not quite make the English language requirements may be able to take a pre-sessional English language programme.

 

Applying

For undergraduate students, applications are made online via UCAS|. Students applying for a University preparation course or a postgraduate course apply to Royal Holloway directly.

Royal Holloway is pleased to offer a number of prestigious International Excellence Scholarships| to outstanding Undergraduate or Masters students each year. These awards are for students who do not have Bolashak funding.

The local Kazakhstani Community

The Kazakhstan Society at Royal Holloway| is very active, organising regular socials and traditional food nights, as well as raising cultural awareness of Kazakhstan on campus and beyond. The Society have also been organising regular seminars to provide an insight into the country's political and economical situation.
