Your first weeks on campus

Congratulations! The hard work has paid off and you are finally planning your arrival at Royal Holloway, ready to start your next adventure. Coming to study and live in a new country is a life changing experience, and Royal Holloway's campus environment makes it easier to settle into your new life and make new friends in the UK.

The International Student Support service aims to ensure that all students receive a warm welcome when they arrive at Royal Holloway, and works with the Students’ Union and other departments to coordinate a programme of events to help you find your way around the campus, local area and to help you meet new people.

Your orientation and welcome programme starts once you arrive on campus, and this section explains the sorts of activities taking place during your first weeks in the UK.

The first week of term, starting Monday 18 September, is known as Welcome Week.

Welcome Week is an opportunity to familiarise yourself with the campus and the local area, meet your department at orientation sessions, put together your class timetable, and of course - to have fun and make friends!

Most classes will not start until the following week, on Monday 25 September. Your department may invite you to an orientation event or some taster classes during Welcome Week, which you must attend. During these sessions you will find out your timetable for the term and have the opportunity to choose any elective courses if available on your degree programme.

Alongside the academic sessions you attend during Welcome Week, there will also be a huge variety of social events to help you to settle into life at Royal Holloway and meet new people. For further information please see the orientation and welcome programme.

Top tip

Make sure you check your student email address regularly before you arrive and during the first week of term to ensure you do not miss any events!
