Hellenic Institute Annual Lecture 2011

Posted on 23/01/2011
Dr Bettany Hughes will deliver the 2011 annual Hellenic Institute lecture on Monday 7 February in the Windsor Building Auditorium at 6.15 pm.  In her talk, entitled 'The Hellenic Cup and TA EROTIKA', Dr Hughes will use evidence from both new archaeological digs and modern, mass-market interpretations of Hellenic culture to analyse the role of ancient Hellenic ideas in the future of a fragile, global world.  She will draw particularly on her new life of Socrates 'The Hemlock Cup', which tries to understand the mission of Socrates in its physical, real-world context.  The lecture will be followed by a reception in the Windsor Building foyer.
