Andrew Nutt

Coastal Management

After graduating from RHUL Andrew worked a 6 month contract job at the Public Record Office in Kew and joined the Crown Estate as Assistant Estate Manager for the Offshore Estate. His current job is that of Coastal Manager (South Coast) for the Marine branch of the Crown Estate. The Marine Estate manages the extensive foreshore and seabed assets held by the Crown Estate.

What Andrew says:

“I am responsible for management of the Coastal Estates on the South Coast of England, including Dorset, Hampshire, West Sussex and the Isle of Wight. I deal with wide-ranging issues such as port development, pipelines & cables, conservation, moorings and Adverse claims. Work includes dealing with rent reviews, lease renewals, licences, enquiries from public, representing the Crown Estates interests on various consultation documents, producing budgets and dealing with other financial matters. I have also dealt extensively with the Marine Aggregate business and the emergent Offshore Wind industry.”

Andrew’s advice:

“Think about the course choices you make while at university. My time at Royal Holloway has proved particularly valuable in the career path that I have pursued. The course options that I chose in the 2nd and 3rd years at RHUL reflected my interest in the study of Physical Geography. That I have been able to put this knowledge to use in my career has been especially rewarding, not to mention rare amongst my contemporaries! In particular, the Coastal Zone Management and Environmental Issues options have proved of especial relevance”
