Professor David Simon has won the £20,000 Urban Studies Journal and Foundation International Seminar Series competition for 2012. This funding will support an international workshop on the theme of 'Bearing the brunt of environmental change: understanding climate adaptation and transformation challenges in African cities.' The workshop will bring together leading academics and practitioners from across Africa to develop new theoretical understandings of the relationships between environmental change and urbanisation, as well as adaptation strategies. Collaboration and co-funding will be provided by other research projects, networks and agencies, including UGEC, UN-Habitat and the Urban Climate Change Research Network (UCCRN). The principal published output is expected to be a special issue of Urban Studies, with other more applied reports and papers catering for other audiences.
