Dr Dorothea Kleine's new book, Technologies of Choice? ICTs, Development and the Capabilities Approach, has just been published by MIT Press in their Information Society Series. This pathbreaking book draws on Dorothea's wide-ranging empirical research on ICTs in Chile, and her long-standing commitment to understanding and theorising development as something other than economic growth. Her work seeks to operationalise Amartya Sen's capabilities approach through a 'Choice Framework' and to contribute significantly to work in the ICT for Development field.
Dorothea is Director of the MSc in Practising Sustainable Development and was a key driver in the setting up of the ICT4D stream of this long-running MSc in 2011. She is also Director of the ICT4D Centre at RHUL which was recently ranked in the world's top ten think tanks in the science and technology field.
