The University is formally launching its five new major research themes at a special internal event to be held on February 13th 2013.
The five new research themes and their Champions are:
Identity, place and mobility: Champion Sandra Halperin
Creativity: Champion Sue Clayton
Society, representation and cultural memory: Champion David Wiles
Health, the human body and behaviour: Champions George Dickson and Mark Exworthy
Sustainability and global security: Champion Klaus Dodds
The University is dedicating 5 fully funded Reid PhD studentships (HEU fee waiver plus maintenance of £15726 per annum for 3 years) - one for each theme to start in academic year 2013/14. Interested applicants should contact either the research theme champions directly or potential supervisors.
Please note that it is possible for supervisors to recommend either a PhD applicant for a scholarship OR a project for which, if selected by the Research Theme for a scholarship, the supervisor then recruits a student via open competition
Any application must have two academic supervisors from two departments (the idea being to promote cross-departmental collaboration) and applicants have to complete a short application form accompanied by supporting statement. Deadline is 31 March 2013. For further details please read this document (PDF) .
