Monday 23rd September - the first day of a new academic year.
There's been a keen sense of anticipation over the past few weeks, as academic, admin and technical staff have put together the final preparations for the new year. It still never quite seems real until a new cohort of undergraduate students are milling around the foyer waiting to go into their first talk (2pm, Queens Lecture Theatre if you need to know.) Later in the week new Masters students and PhD students will also be arriving. We hope that you have a great start to your studies here, and to this new phase in your life.
This is also a time when we welcome new members of staff - particularly Professor Veronica della Dora who has joined us from Bristol University, and Dr Claire Mayers, who will be arriving in a couple of weeks as the new Technical Operations Manager for the Department.
We can't guarantee good weather for the whole of your time with us - but it does look like the first days of term are going to be warm and sunny. Let's hope that's a good sign for all those starting this week - enjoy Welcome Week, and we look forwards to sharing our passion for the discipline with you in the coming weeks and years.
