The Department of Geography at Royal Holloway is one of the leading departments in the UK.

The 2014 UK Research Excellence Framework (REF2014) placed the Department 2nd in the United Kingdom. Our research environment was identified as being 'world leading'' and 'internationally significant'.

Our students consistently rate us very highly. In the last five years, we have scored an average of 97% for overall student satisfaction in the National Student Survey (NSS), with scores of 100% for Human Geography in 2012 & 2013, and for Physical geography in 2014 & 2015). This is indicative of the commitment and energy that we put into our teaching.

As Head of Department, I am very proud of our distinctive research and teaching profile. Our undergraduate students benefit from strong pastoral and tutorial support, and are bound together through an extensive fieldwork programme currently including locations in Malawi, New York, Southern Spain and Sicily. Our postgraduate students are very much central to the research culture of the Department, and are a constant source of energy and new ideas. Together, we are all part of a close knit community.

You can find out much more about the Department through these web pages, including information about our undergraduate and taught postgraduate degree programmes, research groups and interests, and opportunities for PhD research. You can also follow the latest developments in the department through our presence on digital and social media.

Do feel free to contact us if you want more information about who we are and what we do.

Professor Katie Willis, Head of Department
