Returning undergraduate students application information
2015/16 application process
The accommodation application process will be changing for 2015/16, Further information will be available on these pages in due course.
Students who will be able to apply for accommodation as a guaranteed student for the 2015/16 academic year are:
- Students on a Year Abroad for 2014/15 (where the Year Abroad is an integral part of their degree programme)
- Students on a Year in Industry for 2014/15 (where the Year in Industry is an integral part of their degree programme
- Choral, Instrumental, Organ, STARS or Bioscience Entrance scholars
- Students who have applied for and have been granted priority to accommodation on the grounds of disability for the 2015/16 academic year by the Disability and Dyslexia Office.
The students who are eligible to apply for guaranteed accommodation will be contacted directly in January with further information about applying for accommodation as a guaranteed student. Due to the implementation of a new accommodation system, the application process will begin later than previous years.
Waiting list applications
Students who are not guaranteed accommodation (as per the above) and who wish to apply for the accommodation waiting list should only consider this option if they can commute, find temporary accommodation or stay with friends off campus as there is no guarantee that rooms will become available during the academic year. Please note that a place on the waiting list does not guarantee that we will be able to offer you accommodation during the academic year.
The waiting list will open in the summer, date to be confirmed.
The finalists waiting list is given priority over the second year students' waiting list. All waiting list applications will be considered in date//time order with the exception of students granted priority to accommodation on the grounds of disability by the Disability and Dyslexia Services.
Students who are unable to commute, find temporary accommodation or stay with friends off-campus should secure privately rented accommodation in the local area. Please see our private sector webpages for further information.
Students who were granted medical for 2014/15 must contact the Disability and Dyslexia Office to request priority to accommodation on the grounds of disability for 2015/16. They will need to have been granted priority for 2015/16 before submitting an accommodation application. Further information about applying for guaranteed accommodation will be sent to eligible students in January. Accommodation offered is likely to be with first year undergraduates.
Undergraduate returning students who are not guaranteed accommodation are eligible to apply for the respective waiting lists and any returners rooms that are available will be offered to finalists who have applied for the waiting list first in date/time order (however, students granted priority to accommodation on the grounds of disability will be considered before the students on the finalists waiting list). Second year students who apply for the waiting list will only be considered once the finalist waiting list is exhausted. Any undergraduate first year rooms that are available will also be offered to finalists on the waiting list once all first year undergraduate students have recieved room offers, after the start of the academic year.
When students are offered a room contract, they will need to pay a prepayment of £300 when accepting their contract. The £300 paid will then be taken off the first term’s accommodation fee which is due in September.
Once you have been allocated a room, you will receive an email notification requesting you to view and accept your contract online. You will need to accept this within the specified period as indicated on the email offer. Only an offer in writing (email) from Student Accommodation is confirmation that a room has been reserved for you in halls.
The following students are eligible for guaranteed accommodation:
- Students returning from a Year Abroad in 2015/16 (where the Year Abroad is an integral part of their degree programme)
- Students returning from a Year in Industry in 2015/16 (where the Year in Industry is an integral part of their degree programme)
- Choral, Instrumental, Organ, STARS or Bioscience Entrance scholars.
- Students who have applied for and been granted priority to accommodation on the grounds of disability by the Disability and Dyslexia Office

Please check the undergraduate new webpage for application dates and deadlines. You must ensure that your application states that you are a Direct Entrant Applicant.
Students who fail their examinations and do not progress to their next year of study will not be eligible to take up a place in a Hall of Residence. They will be written to by Student Accommodation and informed that their room allocation has been revoked.
Returning students who are repeating a year as a full-time student will also not be able to retain their room allocation or position on Waiting List. Students who are re-sitting their exams only or are part-time students will have their room allocation revoked. Students repeating their first or second year will be able to apply for the waiting list.
Students who have outstanding debts to the College on 1st August 2015 are not normally eligible to take up a place in a Hall of Residence and will have their room allocation revoked.
