Transferring Grants: Can I transfer my grant to a new institution?

Question:
Transferring Grants: Can I transfer my grant to a new institution?
Answer:

Projects can often be transferred to and from another institution, for example if a PI transfers between Universities. However, this process takes time therefore as soon as you know you will need a transfer arrangements the process should be started.

The new administering institution will have to agree to accept the award and RHUL will have to agree to release the award or vice versa. Contracts between institutions will need to be drawn up by Dr Philip Johnson in Research and Enterprise.

The award is then reconciled and the remaining amount of the grant transferred to the new institution.  It is unlikely that the funder will top up the grant to reflect higher rates of pay, London allowance, overheads, or other costs incurred by the new institution.

For Research Council awards, this process is initiated by completing a grant maintenance request on J-eS.
