Equipment: What are the rules for buying equipment on my grant?

Question:
Equipment: What are the rules for buying equipment on my grant?
Answer:

Research Councils:

Equipment with a cost of less than £10K is classified as consumables

Equipment between £10K and £121,588 is to be funded 50:50 between the Research Council and RHUL

Equipment in excess of £121,588 is funded at 100%

Equipment should not be purchased in the last 6 months of the grant without the agreement of the Research Council.

EU:

EU grants will only accept an appropriate share of equipment costs, if the equipment is not going to be used 100% on the grant an appropriate amount should be charged elsewhere.

Equipment purchased in the last year or not foreseen in the Description of Work will be subject to close scrutiny by the Project Officer.
