Posted on 16/01/2012

Dr Andrew Purssell, who was awarded his PhD last year for a thesis on Joseph Conrad and Graham Greene, has been selected as the winner of the Bruce Harkness Young Conrad Scholar Award for 2012 by the Joseph Conrad Society of America. Dr Pursell has published articles on Conrad in the American specialist journal  Conradiana and the Review of English Studies; he has co-edited the volume Within the Tides for the Cambridge Edition of Conrad; and he has recently been appointed Assistant Editor of the British specialist journal The Conradian.

Dr Purssell is the second PhD student supervised by Professor Hampson to have won this award. Dr Yael Levin won the award in 2004. Dr Levin subsequently published a book based on her thesis with Palgrave Macmillan and is now teaching at Trømso University.
