  • Edgar Allen Poe, The Philosophy of Composition and Manuscript found in a Bottle
  • Michael Cunningham, The Hours (London: Fourth Estate, 2003)
  • Virginia Woolf Time Passes (website) and Mrs Dalloway (Oxford World Classics)
  • Mark Z. Danielewski, The House of Leaves (New York: Doubleday, 2000) nb. there are two or three editions – consider the ‘colour’ edition.
  • Joseph Conrad, Heart of Darkness (Harmondsworth: Penguin, 2007)
  • A selection of poems by Yeats, Hopkins and Eliot (all can be read online)
