Co-leader (with Ewan Fernie) of 'The Faerie Queene Liturgy Project'.
Andrew Shanks is Canon Theologian at Manchester Cathedral and co-ordinator of Manchester Cathedral's participation in the project. He has previously zig-zagged between academic and full-time ecclesiastical work, and is the author of several books, including - most relevantly in the present context - 'What Is Truth?' Towards a Theological Poetics, published by Routledge in 2001. His new book Anglicanism Reimagined: An Honest Church? (SPCK) comes out in January 2010. Manchester Cathedral has for some years been host to an International Religious Poetry Competition; has just appointed, for the next three years, a poet in residence; and is in general keen to be a place of experimentation, with regard to the interplay between poetry and liturgy.
