Simulation Trading Floor Launched

Posted on 12/02/2013

The Department of Economics has developed a new MSc Finance course, which commenced in September 2013.   Following on from this, plans were approved to implement a simulation trading floor, for use by students on the programme.  The simulation experience will recreate the excitement of a trading floor in an investment bank and will provide invaluable hands-on experience in a dynamic environment. Real-time data will feed from major exchanges and be displayed on terminals and wall screens, and industry-standard software packages will be used to provide the best possible introduction to Investment Banking IT.  Students will be in an environment where they will learn the analytical and critical skills required for a job in training; improve their academic abilities; become confident in the trading environment and thus more attractive to employers.

The trading room will be located in the Moore Annex (Management) in Room 35. Students will have 24 hour access to the room.  MSc Finance students will also have priority usage of the 10 Reuters Terminals in the Trading Room at all times outside of when the room is being used for teaching.
