A student loan is available to all home undergraduate students.

Students should have contacted Student Finance England prior to their arrival at RHUL to apply.

Hardship Fund 

 

The Hardship Fund is an amount of money available to eligible students who are suffering financial hardship. The Fund is cash limited and demand is high. A standard assessment procedure is used which calculates the level of support based on the gap between annual income and essential expenditure.

We provide a number of different hardship funds to support UK students with the following:

  • Field Trips
  • Theatre Excursions
  • Travel for study
  • Employment or volunteering opportunities directly related to your studies.
  • Facing serious short term financial hardship and where there is a possibility of you having to withdraw/ interrupt your studies.
  • Additional financial support to assist with payment towards living costs such as rent and utility bills.
  • Have caring responsibilities and/ or disabled students.

You can use this fund to supplement your main source of funding. However, it cannot be relied upon as a sole or main source of financial support and cannot be used to support your tuition fees. 

 

How to apply:

  1. Make sure you fit the criteria to apply for this fund
  2. Complete the Hardship Application Form
  3. Arrange for your personal adviser / tutor to complete the Academic Reference
  4. Ensure you have photocopies/ screen prints of the following supporting documents  (that are relevant to you)
  • 3 months bank statements for ALL your bank accounts (ISA, Savings, Current etc.)
  • Student Finance Breakdown Letter (this is titled at the top of the letter) from Student Finance England
  • If living off campus - Tenancy Agreement/ Rent Book/ Mortgage Statements
  • Child Tax Credit/ Childcare Invoices or Receipts
  • Housing Benefit
  • Partners financial documentation
  • Academic Reference (see point 3 above)
         5. Contact the Student Finance and Funding office to make an appointment to go                            through your application

Short Term Loan 

 ***Please note: Assistance cannot be given towards tuition / accommodation fees.***


Royal Holloway can provide short term INTEREST FREE loans to students in emergency financial difficulty, to assist in cash flow problems such as awaiting late student loans, funds from parents or money from abroad.

This is an interest free loan which is to be repaid by an agreed date and is subject to the following:

  • Failure to repay the loan on the agreed repayment date will render the student a College Debtor and they will be subject to the rules and regulations associated with that status.
  • Anyone who has in anyway defaulted on a repayment due date may not be considered for another Principal’s loan in the future.
  • Students must have no outstanding college debts in order to be eligible for the loan
  • Funds will take 3-4 working days to be credited to your bank account.
  • An email will be sent to the student advising of when their loan request will be paid and of the agreed repayment date.

How to apply:

  1. Make sure you have read ALL the information regarding the loan before applying
  2. Complete the Loan Application Form
  3. Ensure you have photocopies/ screen prints of the following supporting documents  (that are relevant to you)
  • 3 months bank statements for ALL your bank accounts (ISA, Savings, Current etc.)
  • Proof of how you are repaying the loan - i.e. regular income from parents/ student loan/ scholarship etc.
        4.  Take completed application to the Student Finance and Funding office in Founders                     West 151.

 

Overseas Funds

These funds are awarded to full-time students from outside the UK.

We provide hardship funds to support students who are facing serious short term financial hardship and where there is a possibility of you having to withdraw/ interrupt your studies.

 

How to apply:

  1. Make sure you fit the criteria to apply for this fund
  2. Complete the Hardship Application Form
  3. Arrange for your personal adviser / tutor to complete the Academic Reference
  4. Ensure you have photocopies/ screen prints of the following supporting documents  (that are relevant to you)
