Exam Access Arrangements

What are Exam Access Arrangements?

We might approve Exam Access Arrangements (EAAs) if you’re unable to sit formal exams under standard examination conditions because of a disability or another condition. EAAs are designed to allow you to demonstrate your knowledge and abilities in exams without compromising academic standards. If you disclose a disability we’ll take appropriate steps to make sure we provide reasonable adjustments.

Who can apply for EAAs?

There are three main groups of students who might need alternative examination arrangements:

  1. Students with a medically diagnosed disability/condition
  2. Students with a specific learning difficulty e.g. dyslexia
  3. Students with a temporary condition or illness.

If you think this applies to you then you might be able to apply for EAAs.  If you’re not sure what needs you have, please contact the Disability and Dyslexia Services team who will be happy to discuss this with you.

How do I apply?

You will need to register with the Disability & Neurodiversity team and provide evidence of your disability or condition.

  • The easiest way to register is to complete the D&N registration form.
  • If you need to discuss this with the team, you can call 01784 414621 or join one of their daily drop- ins:
    • The team are avalable for online drop-ins between 11am-2pm, Monday to Friday (term time).
    • Or in person drop-ins on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday in Founder’s East FE 153.

When do I need to apply?

You should apply for EAAs as soon as possible at the start of the academic year.

How will I know what my Exam Access Arrangements are?

Once you’ve applied for EAAs and they’ve been approved by the College, we’ll send you an email to your College email address confirming the details of your examination access arrangements. Please check that the details in this email are correct and print a copy for your records!

If you think we’ve made a mistake, please contact the Student Services Centre as soon as possible. Remember to regularly check your College email as this is where any important information and updates will be sent.

How do you calculate extra time, and how will it be shown on my timetable?

Extra time is calculated on a pro rata basis per hour. For example, if you are granted 15 minutes per hour extra time for a two hour exam your total exam time will be 2 hours and 30 minutes. Extra time is not displayed on your exam timetable on Campus Connect, so don’t worry if this still shows the standard duration. Your EAA confirmation email will detail how much extra time you have been given per hour and the exam supervisor will re-confirm this to you at the start of your exam.
