Continental Margins Research Group
Pete Burgess (full research profile)
Professor in Sedimentary Geology
Relevant Expertise/Experience: Seismic stratigraphy & modelling
Prof. Pete Burgess has 16 years of post PhD experience constructing, applying and interpreting stratigraphic forward models representing sedimentary systems from the scale of whole continents (Burgess et al, 1997), to individual basins (Allen et al., 2001; Burgess and Steel, 2008) and individual depositional systems (Burgess, 2001; Burgess, 2006). Burgess also has important experience integrating geodynamic and stratigraphic forward models (e.g. Burgess and Gurnis, 1997) and spent several years working as an exploration geoscientist in Shell International in the Netherlands. This work in Shell included several projects evaluating the petroleum potential of passive margin strata and developing a sound understanding of how geodynamic and stratigraphic forward models can be integrated with seismic stratigraphy and petroleum system analysis in these settings.
Role/Function in CMRG: Seismic stratigraphy, coupled tectonic-stratigraphic forward modelling, and petroleum systems analysis.
