The Drama & Theatre department works in partnership with the College’s dedicated Careers Service to help you enhance your employability and prepare for the choices ahead.
Every year, we host a Hob Nob Night, an evening when our successful alumni return to impart their wisdom to our second and third year students. Recent graduate Emma Dean says:
In my opinion, Hob Nob Night presents a fantastic opportunity for Final Year students. Not only did I make the most of free wine and nibbles and have animated conversations with industry professionals, but it has also helped me to progress and develop myself in terms of my future career.
I was lucky enough to meet the Company Manager of inclusive children’s theatre company Haringey Shed, which led to me becoming involved with them as a volunteer for their summer theatre and term-time programmes. I have since established myself as an active member of the company, at which there are often opportunities to gain a more superior, paid role. Haringey Shed can act as a stepping-stone for my career in Applied Theatre, or even present opportunities to progress within the company itself.
I would not have been aware of this fantastic opportunity had I not attended Hob Nob Night, an exciting, influential night unique to Royal Holloway.
Students from across Royal Holloway’s creative arts departments also take part in Play!, the high-profile annual festival and showcase of their work, usually at the Firestation Arts Centre in Windsor.
Drama students are offered other tailored opportunities across the year such as a part-time jobs fair, a wide variety of skills workshops, online sector-specific resources, one-to-one appointments with career consultants, plus a new series of relevant themed careers weeks including Creative Careers.
And when you eventually move into the world of work, we like to keep in touch with you around the world wherever possible, and are always delighted to hear how your chosen career is progressing!
