The Oxford Union is "the world's most prestigious debating society, with an unparalleled reputation for bringing international guests and speakers to Oxford". In its illustrious history spanning almost two centuries, the list of guest speakers have consistently included names of the greats - from the Dalai Lama and Mother Tereesa to Nixon, Reagan and Churchill; from Bon Jovi and Shakira to Albert Einstein and Stephen Hawking, the list goes on.
Very few debates, however, have been as eclectic as yesterday's event, which featured our very own Professor of Drama and Theatre Studies and world-leading Shakespeare expert Liz Schafer facing an opposition that included indie-grime rapper and MC Big Narstie.
The motion presented was: "This house believes Kanye is more relevant than Shakespeare". Fortunately for us theatre enthusiasts, the opposition had it with 149 nays to 124 ayes.
