Batty's backstage brilliance at Bristol with Bond villain

Posted on 16/06/2017

battyAlumna Amy Batty (Drama & Theatre Studies 2015) appears in The Stage talking about her experience on the Bristol Old Vic stage management MA, and working with Julian Glover (of Star Wars/James Bond/Indiana Jones/Harry Potter/Game of Thrones fame) on a new BOV production of Julius Caesar.

“Being involved in this show is almost like a stepping stone into learning how the industry really works,” she says, adding that having sung, danced and acted from childhood she suddenly discovered stage management. “I realised that if I could sweep the stage for the rest of my life, I’d be happy.”

Batty enthuses about the professional actors who are “very generous with their time and wisdom”. Those actors notice what’s going on, too. When Glover hears that I’ve been speaking to Batty, he says, warmly and unprompted: “Amy is one of the best stage managers I’ve ever worked with. She just knows instinctively what’s needed and what to do. She’s going to be a terrific asset to the industry.”
