Students on a Drama led workshop for the MBA programme
During the Autumn term Drama have been collaborating with colleagues from Management to contribute to the MBA programme at Royal Holloway. This initiative recognises the particular skills that drama and theatre practitioners can bring to bear on group-work and facilitation.
Alex Turner (from resident theatre company non zero one) and Emma Brodzinski developed the workshops around the idea of ‘ensemble’. The emphasis of the sessions was on understanding group dynamics and working as a team; elements common to theatre practice and useful to those working in a contemporary business environment.
The workshops received very positive feedback. Simen Gudevold, a Norwegian national who has taken a sabbatical from the HR function at the United Nations in New York, said "Although I generally prefer management classes over theatre studies, and feel more comfortable discussing case studies rather than expressing myself through images, I most definitely see the link between management and drama."
Both management and drama are looking to continue to develop inter-departmental links.
