SOLT Chief Exec. Julian Bird joins The Heart of the West End

Posted on 06/03/2012

Society of London Theatre (SOLT) and Theatrical Management Association (TMA) Chief Executive Julian Bird will join Guardian theatre critic Lyn Gardner and Literary Associate for Sonia Friedman Productions Jack Bradley on Monday 26th March 2012 to discuss the future of the West End as part of the exciting programme for The Heart of the West End conference.

The Society of London Theatre (SOLT) is the association which represents the producers, theatre owners and managers of the 52 major commercial and grant-aided theatres in central London. The organisation exists in order to promote theatregoing, develop audiences, and to serve, protect and promote the interests of those engaged in theatre across London, through activities including The Olivier Awards with MasterCard, tkts ticket booth, the Official London Theatre guide, Theatre Tokens and the annual promotions Kids Week in the West End and Get Into London Theatre.

The panel discussion on the future of the West End will be chaired by Variety critic and academic Karen Fricker and forms part of wider discussions on London’s Theatreland to be held on Sunday 25th and Monday 26th March 2012. The Heart of the West End is being organised by Dr.Gilli Bush-Bailey of Royal Holloway, University of London in association with the V&A and Theatre Royal Haymarket and will bring together some of the UK’s leading academics, theatre owners, makers, managers, performers and critics to discuss, debate and deliberate the West End’s, past, present and future. It will take place at the historic Theatre Royal Haymarket in the heart of London’s West End, where a theatre has stood since 1720.

Mr Arnold. M.Crook, Chairman of the Theatre Royal Haymarket said:

“I am proud to be involved with Royal Holloway, University of London and the V&A in what is certain to be one of the most unique and exciting conferences ever to have been held in the West End.  The Heart of the West End is an opportunity for members of the theatre world to come together and discuss the many aspects of theatre and this can only be of benefit to our industry, those who work in it and future audiences.”
